Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematical problem-solving ability of students viewed from the learning styles and autonomy of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Patimuan. The type of research was descriptive qualitative research, and the population in this study was eighth-grade students. The purposive sampling technique was used in this study, and it obtained eighth grade A as the subject. There were two types of instruments, namely test instruments (a test in the form of a description to measure mathematical problem-solving abilities) and non-test instruments ( a learning style questionnaire and learning independence). The results of this study concluded that: (1) Students with visual learning style and high autonomy can master the four indicators of problem-solving ability. (2) Students with visual learning style and low autonomy are only able to master the three indicators of problem-solving ability. (3) Students with auditory learning style and high autonomy are able to master the four indicators of problem-solving ability. (4) Students with auditory learning style and low autonomy are only able to master the three indicators of problem-solving ability. (5) Students with kinesthetic learning style and high autonomy are able to master the four indicators of problem-solving ability. (6) Students with kinesthetic learning styles and low autonomy are only able to master the three indicators of problem-solving ability.
