The purpose of this study is to describe the principles of language politeness in
Rieta Amilia's speech on Mama Rieta's youtube channel in May 2021. This study used
language politeness theory. The method used descriptive through a qualitative
approach. The data in the study were Rieta Amilia's speech on Mama Rieta's youtube
channel in May 2021 containing the principle of language politeness. The data
collection techniques used in the study were observational non-participatory, notetaking,
and listening techniques. The technique and method of data analysis used the
matching method, with the basic technique of dividing key factors (PUP). Data that
has been analyzed were presented informally. The results showed that in Rieta
Amilia's speech on her youtube channel in May 2021, there were 78 utterances
classified to the principle of language politeness; 13 utterances of wisdom maxim, 17
utterances of generosity maxim, 19 utterances of praise maxim, 3 utterances of
humility maxim, 17 utterances of agreement maxim, and 7 utterances of sympathy
maxim. Thus, it could be concluded that in Rieta Amilia's speech on Mama Rieta's
youtube channel in May 2021, the principle of politeness in the language commonly
found in the maxim of praise as many as 19 utterances, because on this youtube
channel there are many episodes that have interesting themes.
