Abstract

Critical thinking and mastery of vocabulary are factors that can affect the
ability to write argumentative texts. The level of ability to write argumentative
texts in high class has not shown satisfactory results. The low number of students
to think critically due to the lack of student awareness to write or speak, besides
that the students 'vocabulary mastery is still lacking due to the lack of students'
ability to interpret words. This study aims to determine: (1) the positive and
significant influence of critical thinking on the ability to write argumentative
texts, (2) the positive and significant influence of vocabulary mastery of
the
ability to write argumentation texts, (3) the positive and significant influence
of
thinking critical and vocabulary mastery of the ability to write argument texts.
The
population in this study were students of class VIII C, SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto.
The sampling technique uses Simple Random with the number of samples used

students. Data collection techniques used in this study used observation,
documentation and tests. The instrument test was carried out with a validity
and
reliability test. Analysis of the data used is descriptive and statistical analysis.
The results showed that: (1) There was a positive relationship between
the
ability to think critically with the ability to write an argumentative text on
the
eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 9 Purwokerto. Through Product Moment
Correlation analysis the r count value is 0.652 and the rtable value with N = 32 at
a significance level of 1% is 0.449. So the calculated value is greater than
the
rtable value so that the relationship is positive and significant. The calculated
value is based on Product Moment Correlation analysis of 0.733. While the rtable
value with N = 32 1% significance level of 0.449. So the calculated value is
greater than the rtable value so that the relationship is positive and significant.
(3).
Knowing the significance of the correlation between critical thinking skills (X1)
and vocabulary mastery (X2) with critical thinking skills (Y). The calculated
