Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that has hit Indonesia since March 2020 has made learning throughout Indonesia done online. Character education is very important to be instilled in the younger generation, especially in modern times like now. Character education can be done through history learning. This research is a qualitative research. This research was conducted in SMA Negeri 1 Bukateja. The purpose of this study was to determine the implementation of history learning using online methods at SMA Negeri 1 Bukateja, to find out the process of inculcating character values through history learning carried out by teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Bukateja, to find out what obstacles were faced by teachers in the process of inculcating character values in students learners.The data sources in this study were history teachers, student representatives, and representatives of class XI students at SMA Negeri 1 Bukateja. Data collection techniques in this study were interviews, observation, and documentation. The result of this research is that the cultivation of character education has been attempted by SMA Negeri 1 Bukateja by holding school activities related to character education. The planting of character education is also pursued by history subject teachers through history learning. Some of the values of character education pursued by history teachers are religious, honest, caring, disciplined, and tolerant. Teachers in their efforts to inculcate the value of character education find several obstacles which include internal and external constraints. Even so, teachers always seek solutions in dealing with these obstacles so that these obstacles can be minimized. The process of instilling character education values through online methods can be said to be successful, although efforts must continue to strengthen character education that has been embedded in students so that students will grow into moral individuals in the family, nation, state, and community.
