Abstract

Sugarcane (Saccharun officinarum L.) is one of Indonesian plantation commodities with high economic value. Production of superior sugarcane seeds from producers in one place needs to be sent to other locations. Bud chips seedling is one of the efficient sugarcane seed delivery techniques. However, the decrease in the percentage of seed viability and a high level of fungal contamination during shipment or within a certain period of storage are considered as weaknesses. This study was aimed to increase the percentage of viability of sugarcane seed after a certain storage period by giving fungicide immersion treatment. The first generation of Bululawang (BL) sugarcane chips from meristem culture were soaked in a fungicide solution of Dithane M-45 80 WP with a concentration of 1 g/L for 6, 12, 18, 24 hours and stored for 1 and 2 weeks. As a control, sugarcane chips were used without soaking. After the storage period, the chips were planted and cared in polybags for 4 weeks to determine the percentage of survival and to determine the growth. The results showed that sugarcane chips were successfully stored for 1 week with a high percentage of sugarcane chips survival (50 - 75 %) and a relatively low percentage of contamination (3 - 13 %). Storage of sugarcane chips for 2 weeks was not successful on seeds soaked in Dithane M-45 80 WP fungicide solution and all chips were contaminated with fungi (100 %). Sugarcane chips also cannot be stored for 1 week or 2 weeks directly without soaking in a fungicide solution. Sugarcane chips soaked in a solution of fungicide Dithane M-45 80 WP with a concentration of 1 g/L for 6 to 24 hours and stored for 1 week did not cause changes in the growth of sugarcane chips after planting in terms of stem diameter, plant height, and the number of leaves.
