Abstract

The study aimed to describe the types and functions of the satires of the memes
discourse on Instagram. It was a descriptive study with a stylistic approach. The data
were the discourses of Meme creator on Instagram with meme.wkwk account that
contained satires. The data sources were the memes on meme.wkwk account
Instagram. Based on the results, it could be concluded that the types of satires found
in memes on Instagram were (a) irony, (b) cynicism, (c) sarcasm, (d) satire, and (e)
innuendo. The satire functions most often found in meme.wkwk accounts were irony
and innuendo, which consisted of 5 memes. (2) The satire functions found in the
discourse of meme creators on Instagram, namely: (a) conveying certain information/
purposes, (b) entertaining, (c) insinuating, and (d) advising. There were 9 memes
having the function of advising, 8 memes having the function of conveying certain
information/ purpose, 4 memes having the function of criticizing, and 3 memes having
the function of influencing or convincing.
