Abstract

This thesis entitled “An Analysis of Students’ Mastery of Noun Clause (A Descriptive Study on Fourth Semester Students of English Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto)” which discussed about the students’ mastery of noun clause. This study used descriptive study as the method of this research. In this case, the number of fourth semester students of English Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in academic year 2019/2020 was 87 students. All of the students were taken as the sample. The writer used test which consisted of 30 items multiple choice and 10 combining sentences. Then, the students’ answer was analyzed. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was found that the mastery level of noun clause of the fourth semester students of English Department students Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in academic year 2019/2020 mostly belonged to good category in which the number of the student’s mastery in its category was 30 students or 34.48%. After that, the number of students who belonged to very good category was 18 students or 20.68%. Then, there were 20 students or 22.98% belonged to fair category. In other words, there were 18 students or 20.68% who belonged to bad category and there were only 1 student or 1.14% who belonged to very bad category. In short, it can be assumed that there were 78.14% students at the fourth semester students of English Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in academic year 2019/2020 mastered noun clause, while the result of the mean of the students’ mastery of noun clause showed their mastery was 62.52%. Therefore, the students’ level in mastering noun clause in this research belonged to good category.
