This research aimed to describe the forms and the factors of social conflicts in
Jatisaba novel written by Ramayda Akmal. This was literary research. The data in this
research were texts in Jatisaba novel written by Ramayda Akmal which potentially
contain social conflicts. The source of data in this research was Jatisaba novel written
by Ramayda Akmal.
This research applied the sociology of literature approach. The reading
technique and note-taking technique were used to collect data. The results of the
research showed two points related to the social conflicts in the novel. First, the forms
of social conflicts in the novel were described as follow: (1) conflicts among social
classes such as (a) conflicts between the rich and the poor and (b) conflicts between
the headman and the people; (2) conflicts among groups such as (a) conflicts between
Jompro group and Mardi group; (3) conflicts among individuals such as (a) conflicts
between Mrs. Mardi and Musri, (b) conflicts between Jompro and Mae, (c) conflicts
between Malim and Ninja, (d) conflicts between Mae and Malim, (e) conflicts
between Gao and Sitas, and (f) conflicts between Sitas and Pontu; and (4) conflicts
among generations such as (a) conflicts between Sitas and Awae. Second, the factors
causing the social conflicts in the novel were (1) the differences owned by
individuals/characters such as (a) the difference of principle between Sitas and Pontu,
(b) the difference of feeling between Mardi and Kepeng, (c) the difference of feeling
between Jompro group and Mardi group, (d) the difference of feeling between Mrs.
Mardi and Musri, (e) the difference of feeling between Mae and Malim, (f) the
difference of feeling between Gao and Sitas, and (g) the difference of feeling between
Malim and Ninja; and(2) the differences of interest.
