Abstract

The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the use of Jeopardy Game is effective to teach simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP N 5 Purwokerto in academic year 2019/2020. The method of this research was quasi experimental design. The sample of this research consisted of 30 students of 7A as the experimental class and 30 students of 7B as the control class. The sampling technique that is used was purposive sampling. The instrument that is used to collect data was a test whichwas divided into two forms, those are pre-test and post-test. From the data that has been analyzed, the researcher found that the mean of the post-test result of experimental class is 75.20, while the mean of the post-test result of control class is 67.47. On the other hand, it was also found that the t-test count result is higher than t-table that is 4.24 > 1.67. From the results of the mean from the two classes and the t-test computation, it can be concluded that the use of Jeopardy Game to teach simple present tense at the seventh grade students of SMP N 5 Purwokerto in academic year 2019/2020 is effective.
