This study aims to analyze the protagonist characterization of the short stories
published in Radar Banyumas newspaper edition of January-March 2019. This
research used qualitative research with a descriptive analysis method. Data In
this study were twelve short stories from Radar Banyumas edition of January
March 2019 that are discussed. The aim is to describe the protagonist's
characterization which is often applied in short story writing. This research was
conducted using reading and note taking techniques in understanding the short
story. The result shows that there are three short stories that used analytical
characterization, one short story used dramatic characterization, and eight short
stories used analytical and dramatic characterization.
