Abstract

Reading comprehension is the main aspect to find out and to comprehend
the content of the reading material. However, the fact showed that reading
comprehension of the fourth graders is not optimal. Therefore, researchers
developed comic-based learning media. This study aimed to: 1) determine the
development of Comic Teman Belajar as a means of reading comprehension. 2)
determine the feasibility of Comic “Teman Belajar” development according to
material and design experts. 3) determine the response of teachers and students in
the use of Comic Teman Belajar as learning media. This is a Research and
Development (R and D) using the Richey and Klein model which includes
planning, production, evaluation. The R and D research was carried out until the
dissemination stage in SD Negeri 1 Karangnanas. The research was tried out on
grade IV C SD Negeri 1 Karangnanas involving 26 students and 1 teacher. The
data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire in the form of: 1)
media expert validation questionnaire, 2) linguistic expert validation
questionnaire, 3) teachers’ response questionnaire, and 4) students’ response
questionnaire. The development of Comic “Teman Belajar” was validated by 2
validators which resulted media validation with an average value of 4.29 and
language validation of 4.53 with very valid criteria. The teachers’ response got a
score of 4.6 with very good criteria and the students response score was 3.78 with
very good criteria. The use of Comic Teman Belajar as learning media has a
positive impact on students’ reading comprehension skills.
