Abstract

Ultraviolet light exposure can cause harmful effects on skin health. Sunscreen is a
preparation used to protect the skin from ultraviolet radiation. The combination of
chemical filters UV sunscreen and filter physics UV can increase the SPF of
sunscreen preparations. In this study a combination of 2-hydroxy-4-(octyloxy)
benzophenone (HOB) as a chemical filter UV, titanium dioxide (TiO2) and zink
oxide (ZnO) as physical filter UV were formulated in cream fomula. Design
Expert 7.1.5 D-optimal Mixture Design method is used to optimize the optimum
formula with 3 independent variables namely HOB with a concentration limit of
5-10%, TiO2 5-10% and ZnO 5-10%. The response used is the SPF value and
viscosity. This research aims to determine the effect of combination preparations
on SPF values, to determine the physical properties from the preparation and find
out the optimum formula. The results of physical properties from preparations
showed that organoleptic observation, homogeneity test, pH test, and viscosity
test fulfilled with good physical properties of the cream. While the spread and
adhesion of the cream are not according to the requirements. The results of the
response from 10 runs produce SPF values with range of 3,047-7,137 and the
viscosity of 7146.66-9640 cps. The results of the ANOVA analysis showed
significant values for both responses. The optimum formula for the prediction
results from D-optimal Mixture Design is the concentration of HOB 8,493%; TiO2
5%; dan ZnO 6,507% with prediction SPF 7,4 and viscosity 9144,45. The physical
stability test of storage in room temperature is less stable, while the physical
stability of cycling test occurs in phase separation in the 5th and 6th cycles
