Abstract

Discipline character is very necessary in people's lives. This study aims to:
1) describe the role of teachers in an effort to improve students' discipline
character, 2) describe the role of parents in efforts to improve students' discipline
character, 3) explain the supporting and inhibiting factors in an effort to improve
the character of student discipline, 4) describe the evaluation of the role of
teachers and parents in an effort to improve the character of student discipline,
and 5) describe a critical analysis of the role of teachers and parents in an effort to
improve the character of student discipline in SD Negeri 1 Kendaga, Banjarmangu
District, Banjarnegara.
The research used is qualitative research with descriptive analysis case
study method. The research subjects were principals, teachers, parents and
students. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and
documentation. The data processing process goes through three stages, namely
data reduction, data presentation, and drawing a conclusion. This research used
triangulation source and technique triangulation.
The results of this study indicate that: 1) the teacher's role in shaping the
disciplined character of students at SD Negeri 1 Kendaga is the teacher as
educator, teacher, mentor, role model, motivator and evaluator. 2) The role of
parents in an effort to improve the disciplined character of children is by giving
explanations, giving advice, educating by example, educating with love, educating
with supervision and educating by teaching children about religion. 3) Supporting
factors in an effort to improve the character of discipline are the existence of a
good environment, complete facilities and infrastructure, support from teachers,
parents, and the community, as well as the attitude of children who are obedient to
teachers and parents. The inhibiting factor is the influence of the environment of
friends to hang out with and the joy of children playing, the influence of the
media, namely gadged technology, television shows, and busyness from parents,
and not having a cellphone. 4) Evaluation of the role of teachers and parents in an
effort to improve the character of discipline is through observation, selfassessment,
and assessment among friends whose assessment results are reported
to parents through reporting learning outcomes, 5) Results of analysis of the role
of teachers in the formation of student discipline character in state elementary
schoo 1 Kendaga, namely all teachers have used their roles well, but there are
some teachers who are still not optimal. The teacher's efforts to improve the
disciplined character of students use several methods, namely: habituation,
example, lectures, and simulations. The role of parents is very important to
improve the character of discipline, because parents have a duty to cultivate the
character of self-discipline in children from the start.
