Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is one of the bacteria that trigger the occurrence of diarrhea and disease on the skin. One of the plants has been researched as antibacterial is the leaves of white tea plant (Camellia sinensis L.). The purpose of this study was determine the formulations a gel Hand sanitizer leaf extract of white tea that gives the best effectiveness of antibacterial against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.White tea leaves are extracted using 96% ethanol by the method of maceration. The Gel was made into 3 formulas with the concentration of the ethanol extract of the leaves of white tea of 2%, 4%, and 6%. Gel tested the physical properties, stability and antibacterial activity against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Antibacterial test conducted by the method of pitting. The results of the study showed the gel of ethanol extract of the leaves of white tea have met the requirements of pH, viscosity, and homogeneity. Gel ethanol extract of the leaves of white tea can be said to be stable during storage because there is no meaningful change on the gel, wether it is organoleptic, pH, and homogeneity. In testing the antibacterial formula has antibacterial activity. The higher the extract concentration, the greater inhibition produced.
