Abstract

Adversiting is an appropriate means to advertise a product to persuade audiences to certain product and services offered through mass media such s television, radio, newspapers and others. Advertising also provides written message in the form of a slogan. The slogan shown in soft drink advertisements is generally a sentences containing commercial context as an expression to influence the audience. This study aims to determine or describe the context as a determinant of meaning on the slogan of soft drink advertisements broadcasted on RCTI and SCTV television stations in October 2016. The research use descriptive qualitative method which describes the result of descriptive data in the form of written language. The data in this research are the slogans of soft drink advertisement found on RCTI and SCTV during October 2016. The result of this study shows that the context of soft drink advertisements cover eight context factors namely speaker, listener, topic of conversation, setting, channel, code, message form, and event. This research finds the context factors which relates the slogan and the situation shown in the advertisement such as on the term “Find Indonesia”. If the terms is related to the situasion on the advertisement which protraits a traveler visiting many places ini Indonesia, the purpose of the slogans is to travel around Indonesia to discover the meaning of Indonesia from various places in Indonesia.
