This research entitled An Analysis on Figure of Speech and Function in the
Song Lyrics of Gajah Album by Tulus aimed to observe the form of figure of speech
in the song lyrics of Gajah album by Tulus and to describe the language function
delivered in the lyrics of the Gajah album by Tulus. The approach implemented in
the analysis of figure of speech and language function was stylistic approach.
Descriptive analysis was implemented as the research method, because etymology
description and analysis meant elaboration, but it was not merely elaborate but also
provided sufficient understanding and explanation.
The Analysis on figure of speech and language function in the song lyrics of
Gajah album by Tulus were: (1) figure of speech based on sentence structure
discovered, (a) climax, (b) epizeuxis repetition, (c) anaphora's repetition, (d)
epistrofa repetition, (e) mesodiplosis repetition, and direct and indirect figure of
speech was divided into two: rhetorical and figurative language styles. Rhetorical
language style discovered were (a) assonance, (b) hyperbole, (c) paradox (d)
parallelism. Figurative languages discovered were (a) metaphor, (b) simile (c)
symbolic. (2) Figure of speeches presented were (a) emotive function, (b) referential
function, (c) imaginative function. Through the figure of speech and language
function can show the description to the reader for a better understanding or
prediction expected by the author.
