Abstract

Background: Pregnant women often experience iron deficiency anemia which is characterized by a decrease in hemoglobin levels. Therefore, it is necessary to have components that can help absorb iron such as vitamin C found in lemon (Citrus limon). This study aims to determine the effectiveness of lemon (Citrus limon) juice in increasing Hb levels of pregnant women. Methods: This type of research is experimental with a prospective research design. The population in this study were all pregnant women who were willing to take part in the study totaling 13 people obtained by total sampling technique. The research was carried out in Kalimanah Wetan Village, Kalimanah District, Purbalingga Regency in January-March 2021. Data were taken using a pre-posttest approach. Before the intervention, pregnant women were first checked for hemoglobin levels as pretest data, and then lemon juice (Citrus limon) was given to consumed once a day for one month. After one month, pregnant women were rechecked for hemoglobin levels as posttest data. Results: The T-Test showed that the p-value obtained was .000 (<0.05), which means a significant increase between pretest and posttest hemoglobin with an average hemoglobin level before the intervention of 9.81 g/dL. Meanwhile, the average hemoglobin level after the intervention was 11.43 g/dL. Conclusion: Lemon (Citrus limon) juice affects increasing hemoglobin levels by 1.62 g/dL.
