Abstract

The aims of this research were to find out the the impact of English Club
extracurricular towards students’ writing ability and the mean difference of each
writing component. This research was an ex post facto research involving the
eighth grade students in which 15 students from the English Club students (EC)
and 15 non English Club students (non EC). Writing test was used to collect the
data. The data were analyzed by using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis
(independent unpaired t-test). The result of the mean calculation showed that the
EC students made higher score than the non EC students (81.2>72.2) in which the
mean difference between those two groups was (9). The result of the data
computation at the level significance 0.05 with the degree of freedom 28, also
showed that the t-obtained was higher than the t-table (4.02>2.04), so it can be
said that there was significant difference between students who join English Club
and those who do not in terms of their writing ability. Moreover, The writing
components analysis also showed that the EC students made higher score in all
writing aspects and there were mean differences in all writing aspects except in
vocabulary aspect. The rank of mean difference between those two groups in
writing aspects were as follows: 1). Content aspect (2.3), 2). Language Use aspect
(1.5), 3). Organization aspect (1.4), 4). Mechanics aspect (0.8) and 5). Vocabulary
aspect (0).
