Abstract
The background of this research is the low motivation to learn and student
achievement. This study aims to improve student motivation and learning
achievement through the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model. This type of
research is classroom action research consisting of 2 cycles, each cycle consisting
of 2 meetings. The subjects of this study were all fifth grade students of SD Negeri
4 Kalirandu, totaling 38 students consisting of 15 male students and 23 female
students. The procedure of this research includes planning, implementing,
observing, and reflecting. The instruments used in this study are tests and nontests.
The test instrument was in the form of evaluation questions while the nontest
was in the form of observation sheets, questionnaires, and documents. Data
on student motivation was obtained from student learning motivation
questionnaire sheets which were distributed individually to students at the
beginning of the first cycle meeting and at the end of the second cycle meeting
while the student achievement data was obtained from the results of the
evaluation questions. This research was conducted in May 2019, the first cycle
was conducted on the 8th and 9th while the second cycle was carried out on the
17th and 18th.
Results of the research student motivation in the first cycle reached an
average of 69 and the second cycle reached an average of 79, while student
achievement in the first cycle reached a percentage of completeness of 71.05%
and in the second cycle reached 93.48%.Teacher activities and student activities
that occur in the teaching and learning process increase. Teacher activity in cycle
I had an average of 12 with sufficient criteria while in cycle II had an average of
16.5 with very good criteria. Student activities in cycle I get an average of 7 with
good criteria while in cycle II get an average of 9 with very good criteria. The
results of this study can be concluded that the Project Based Learning (PjBL)
model can improve student motivation and learning achievement in class V of SD
Negeri 4 Kalirandu.
