This descriptive qualitative research aimed to describe mathematical
problem solving skills viewed from skill competence on students of SMK Negeri 1
Bojongsari. The samples were taken using a purposive sampling technique.Two
subjects were taken from each category of students with high learning
achievement and students with low learning achievement from every skill
competence based on their score of KKM (Minimum CompletenessCriteria). The
data were collected using test, interview, and documentation. The validation test
was technique triangulation. The results showed that: 1)students with the
category of high on the culinary art skill competence were able to master all steps
of problem-solving including understanding the problem, making a problemsolving
plan, implementing the problem-solving plan, and rechecking the result,
while the students with category of low were not able to recheck their result;
2)students with category of high on the fashion skill competence were not able to
make a problem-solving plan while those with category of low were only able to
understand the problem; 3)students with the category of high on the hospitality
skill competence were not able to recheck their result while those with category of
low were only able to understand the problem, and 4)students with category of
high on the multimedia skill competence were not able to recheck their result
while those with category on low were able to understand the problem and make a
problem-solving plan.
