The study aimed to describe the types of speech figures found in student poems SMP Negeri 5 Bantarkawung in the academic year of 2019-2020. It was a descriptive qualitative study. The data were words, phrases, and sentences that contained the speech figures in student poems. The data sources were the poems written by the students. The data were analyzed by looking at the poems one by one. The data were then identified using the dividing key-factors technique to classify into various speech figures based on whether or not the meaning and their use were directly explained. Based on the result, several types of speech figures were found in the poems including 7 data of personification, 3 data of metaphor, 1 data of litotes, 1 data of simile, 3 data of hyperbola, 2 data of allegory, and 3 data of synecdoche. Second, from the data above, it can be seen the most widely used style im student poems was the personification style, with a frequency of seven data. Personification is a type of speech figure that describes inanimate objects or as if alive like humans, so that they can carry out various human activities.
