Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia.
The condition of chronic hyperglycemia will lead to increased free radical
production resulting in oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is a condition marked by
an imbalance between oxidants and antioxidants in the body. Based on the
research, some plants are efficacious as an antioxidant extract of soursop leaf
and leaf belimbing wuluh. This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol
extract of soursop leaf and ethanol extract of starfruit leaves wuluh whether it has
better antioxidant effect to decrease MDA level compared with the sole use of
alloxan induced white rats. The method used in this research is experimental with
pre and post test design group design. The study was conducted using 25 male
wistar strain rats divided into 5 groups. Group I as normal control (Na CMC),
group II was given soursop leaf extract of 100 mg / kgBB, group III was given
extract of leaves of starfruit wuluh dose 125 mg / kgBB, group IV given
combination of soursop leaf extract and belimbing wuluh dose 100 mg / kgBB +
125 mg / kgBW, group V as negative control (alloxan). MDA levels were
measured on a spectrophotometer with a wavelength of 532 nm. The results
showed that the combination of soursop leaf extract and leaf belimbing wuluh
extract had an antioxidant effect that could decrease MDA but did not increase
the antioxidant effect compared to its sole treatment.
