Abstract

Math skills become one of the important skills students must have in mathematics learning. This research aims to describe the ability of students ' mathematical communication through thinking styles (linear and global). Research conducted on students of grade VIII G SMP Negeri 2 Baturraden. Data is collected through polls, tests, and interviews. Analysis refers to the indicator of mathematical communication skills, namely: (1) studying, understanding, and writing information; (2) The submission of mathematical ideas in the form of symbol languages, tables, or graphs; (3) Solution description and determination of the final result. The results showed that: (1) students with a style of linear and global thinking meet indicators 1 and 2; (2) in the process of the solution's description, the students with linear thinking style type still make mistakes in writing mathematical symbols; (3) in the process of the solution's description, the student with the style of global thinking is still wrong in using the formula and doing negative number calculations; (4) Students with a linear and global style of thinking still do not yet describe the full chart, yet write clear naming on axes, lines and points (5) students with a linear and global style of thinking are still not able to solve the problem about concerning writing arguments against a question or statement.
