Abstract
The essence of learning fantasy stories is a process of knowing, understanding, enjoying, appreciating and being able to write them. The feasibility to write effective, efficient, and fun fantasy stories can be approached by providing various teaching material books, based on the demands of the curriculum, and the needs of students. The main weakness of learning to write fantasy stories nowadays is the lack of teaching materials for writing fantasy stories. This research was conducted with three objectives as follows. (1) To determine the needs of teaching materials in learning to write fantasy stories that will be used as learning development materials. (2) To describe the design of teaching materials for writing fantasy stories that integrate character values based on a scientific approach for grade VII Junior High School students, (3) To obtain an overview of the validation of teaching materials in learning to write fantasy stories as a result of development. This research is a level one (1) development research where the researcher conducted research to find out the potential and problems, to design the product and to test the design internally. The results of the study can be concluded as follows. First, based on the preliminary study, it was found that the problems of teachers and students related to learning materials for writing fantasy stories in junior high schools were the lack of teaching materials for teachers and the lack of interest in learning to write fantasy stories by students. Secondly, based on the analysis of the needs of teachers and students; 45 students agreed to have special teaching materials in writing fantasy stories, 50 students wanted teaching materials to have attractive colors and 36 students wanted teaching materials with the use of common language based on proper spelling that is easy to understand. Three teachers expect teaching materials to be written in a completed and easily understood by students. Third, the results of prototype validation from experts and teachers are (a) The feasibility aspect of the content of the experts is 3.75% including the very good category, from the teacher 3.83 including the very good category. (b) Aspects of presentations, the value of the expert is 3.88 in the very good category and from the teacher 3.79 in the very good category. (c) Aspects of languages and readability from experts 3.75 categories are very good and from teachers 3.83 categories are very good. (d) The graphic aspect of the value of the expert is 4.00 in the very good category and from the teacher 3.93 in the very good category.
