Abstract

Lips are very vulnerable because disorders such as inflammation and swelling of the lips can occur quickly. Therefore the lips must be moisturized using cosmetics such as lip balm when lip abnormalities appear. Natural ingredients are an alternative that can be done for the manufacture of cosmetics from natural ingredients that are better than synthetic materials. One of the plants that can be used in cosmetic preparations is avocado. Avocado (Parsea americana Mill) contains flavonoids, alkaloids, triterpenoids, vitamins, such as vitamins A, B, C, D and E, this fruit has great potential to be used as a softener to maintain softness, reduce dryness, smooth the skin, and soften skin. Methods: Avocado fruit was extracted by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent and phytochemical screening. Then, lip balm preparations were made with extract concentrations of 2%, 4%, 6%. Then the physical test of the preparation was carried out by observing the organoleptic, melting temperature, homogeneity and irritation. The effectiveness test was carried out by observing changes in the moisture content of the lips using a skin analyzer for 7 days. Results: the results of the evaluation of the physical properties of lip balm showed that the preparation had good physical properties. The results of the effectiveness of the humidity test showed that there was no significant difference between FI, FII, FIII, negative control and positive control with P value > 0.05. Conclusion: lip balm preparations can increase lip moisture.
