Abstract
Respiratory tract disease is one of the most common diseases in Indonesia.
People can use packaged traditional medicines or make their own in their treatment.
However, some people remain unaware that the concentration of compounds in
traditional respiratory medicine has benefits and risks related to toxicity, drug
interactions, and side effects. This study aims to see how knowledge, attitudes, and
behavior influence the decision to use traditional respiratory medicine in the
Banyumas Regency. This study is an analytic observational study with sample
calculation using the Slovin formula and data collection methods, including
questionnaires and interviews, conducted in pharmacies in the Banyumas Regency
area. Total respondents in this study were 230 pharmacy visitors. The results
showed that 47.4 percent of pharmacy visitors in Banyumas Regency had high
knowledge, 47.8 percent of respondents had a pretty good attitude, and 61.3 percent
had good behavior. Based on the test and chi-square results, it is possible to
conclude a significant relationship between pharmacy visitors' knowledge,
attitudes, and behavior in the Banyumas Regency and their decision to use
traditional respiratory medicine with a p-value of (0.000) < 0.05. The logistic
regression analysis revealed that the knowledge variable had the most significant
influence on the use of traditional respiratory medicines, with an odds ratio of
0.529. In addition, the research results of a qualitative analysis of the factors that
can influence the decision to use traditional respiratory medicine, such as gender,
age, education, employment status, sources of information, experience, and
social/cultural environment.
