This study aims to: 1) Know the steps to equip students with critical and creative thinking skills using a project based learning model in making a simple solar cooker; 2) Knowing the effect of the project based learning model in making a simple solar cooker in equipping students with critical and creative thinking skills. This type of research is quantitative with nonequivalent control group design and posttest only control group design. Data collection techniques used interviews, observations, and tests. While the data analysis technique used is prerequisite test and hypothesis testing using t-test. The results of the study are 1) the steps for debriefing critical and creative thinking skills using a project based learning model in making a simple solar cooker are start with the essential question, design a plan for the project, create a schedule, monitor the students and the progress of the project, assess the outcome, and evaluate the experience; 2) the project based learning model has a significant influence on critical and creative thinking skills when compared to the conventional model in making a simple solar cooker, this is evidenced by the results of data analysis on critical thinking skills the average value of the experimental class is 81.88 while control class 72.88 with a significance value of 0.004. Meanwhile, for creative thinking skills, the average experimental class is 81.35 and the control class is 67.41 with a significance value of 0.000. For both significance values < 0.05.
