The study was entitled “An Analysis of Genetic Structuralism in Max Havelaar
novel by Multatuli.” This research eimed to discribe the main character of Max
Havelaar, novel by Multatuli, Max Havelaar. Max Havelaar was the main
charakter who fought for the rights of oppresed under duth rule. In addition, in
Max Havelaar novel described the author’s
view during the Dutch goverment, and the condition of society during the Dutch
Goverment. This research used sociology of literature approach.
The method of this research was analytical descriptive metod by
describeing abd analyzing Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli. The data source of
this research was Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli. The techniques of
collecting data used reading and taking note technique.
The result of this study are divided into three. The first in the intrisic
element in Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli: the author’s world view, and the
condition of society in Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli. The intrisic element
include: (1) the theme of Max Havelaar novel is rejecting the Dutch oppression
on the natives pionereed by Max Havelaar. (2) the plot used of Max Havelaar
novel by Multatuli is a forward plot as the sequence of events is displayed
cronologically. The first event is followed by the next event. (3) the main
character in Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli is a protagonist character. The
supporting character is Tine, Havelaar’s wife, who plays as protagonist.
Another characters are the regent of Lebak and Droogstoppel who act as
antagonist characters. (4) the setting in Max Havelaar’s novel is centered in
Lebak, Banten. The second in the author’s World Views in Max Havelaar novel.
By Multatuli include: against the power abuse, oppose forced cultivation, and
oppose arbitrariness. The third result is the conditions of society under Dutch
rule in Max Havelaar novel by Multatuli. Those conditions of society under
Dutch rule in Max Havelaar by Multatuli. Those conditions are the conditions of
the poor, hungry people, oppressed society, and frightening society.
