Abstract

This research was aimed at investigating the English language teachers’ perceptions on grammar teaching in classroom. The method used in this research was descriptive survey. The subject of this research was English language teachers both in state and private vocational high schools in Purwokerto. Questionnaire and interview were used to collect the data. Based on the research result in general, 77.63% English language teachers have positive perception on grammar teaching in classroom. That percentage is the calculation of some sub perceptions. There are 86.11% English teachers stated that grammar teaching plays important role to improve students’ grammar knowledge. Besides that, 67.41% English teachers tend to use inductive approach. Meanwhile, 74.44% teachers give feedback after the students produce sentences. Afterward, they also have positive perceptions on the need to give exercises about grammar to empower students’ grammar knowledge (78.52%). Besides, 85.56% the teachers always do preparation before teaching grammar in classroom.
