Abstract

This research aimed to describe the students analogy reasoning skill on the eighth grade of SMP Negeri 2 Gumelar viewed from gender. The method of this research was descriptive qualitative. The subjects involved 28 eighth graders consisting of 15 male students and 13 female students. The samples were taken using purposive sampling technique. The students were categorized into two categories based on gender which were male and female. Three students were chosen from each category as the samples of the research. The data were collected using test, interview, and documentation then analysed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion. The validation test was triangulation technique. The results showed that male students had mastered analogy reasoning well, while female students still had poor skill to conclude from problems into codes or mathematical symbols (encoding) and to implement mathematical concept into target (applying).
