The use of school libraries has a very important role in increasing reading
interest in students. In fact, there are still many schools that have not been active in
utilizing school libraries to increase their students' reading interest. The mass library is
considered the most boring place to visit even though the library is a place that has
many sources of information for all school residents. The purpose of this study was to
find out how the use of school libraries in increasing reading interest of students in
Gunungjati Kembaran Middle School, knowing what obstacles were faced, and
knowing what efforts were made to increase the use of school libraries in increasing
reading interest of Gunungjati Kembaran Middle School students. . This type of
research is a descriptive study with a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study
were class VIII SMP Gunungjati Kembaran. Data collection techniques in this study
were using interview techniques, observation techniques, and questionnaire
techniques. The results showed that the use of school libraries in increasing students'
reading interest was quite good. Judging from the results of the average score of the
results of the questionnaire 3.10 which means that all students agreed that the use of
the school library in Gununngjati Junior High School had gone well. However, there
are still obstacles faced, namely the low reading interest in students which makes the
use of school libraries not work properly. Various efforts have been made by the
school to continue to improve the use of school libraries in increasing student interest
in reading, namely by holding a literacy movement and continuously updating the
collection of library materials in the school library.
