Abstract

Writing official letters is one of the language skills that students in grade VII need to master. Five aspects that need to be considered in writing official letters are systematic or parts of official letters, contents of official letters, accuracy of the language of official letters (selection of words, sentences and paragraphs), spelling and punctuation, and neatness. In learning to write official letters students are less enthusiastic to think critically. This makes students feel bored and bored in learning. therefore, learning models that are appropriate to the material are needed so that they can optimize the ability of students well. The purpose of this study was to improve the skills to write official letters using the Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) method in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 6 Purwokerto. This study uses a class action research design (CAR) which was carried out in 2 stages, namely the first cycle and second cycle stages. Cycles I and II consist of planning, action, observation, reflection The results showed an increase in student skills in writing official letters and reached the target of a minimum average value specified, which is equal to 75. Based on these results, the conclusions that can be drawn are an increase in the results of the test skills in writing official letters and changes in student behavior. VIIB SMP Negeri 6 Purwokerto after participating in the learning process through the STAD method. The average results obtained at the implementation of prettest is 69.3. In the implementation of posttest I get an average value of 74.8 and posttest II 81.8.
