Abstract

This research aims to find out students’ perception and their reasons towards oral peer feedback in writing class. The research which belonged to survey study involved 59 sixth semester students of English Education Department of Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in the academic year 2018/2019 as the respondents. To reveal students’ perception and their reasons towards oral peer feedback in writing class, two instruments were used: closed-questionnaire, and semi-structured interview. The questionnaire result showed that students had very high positive perception (89.43%) towards oral peer feedback in writing class. From both instruments, it can be found out that: almost all students agreed that oral peer feedback could recall their writing knowledge and improve their writing skill since they could get knowledge and apply it while revising and making writing. They also felt comfort and got easiness when giving, and receiving oral peer feedback as well as revising their mistakes. Besides that, they preferred to give oral peer feedback when the writing process finished since the feedback could be given easily and accurately, and they also preferred to get oral peer feedback during the writing process since the mistakes could be minimized and after the writing process finished since they got appropriate feedback and no distraction. Furthermore, they also agreed that oral peer feedback could improve their various writing aspects.
