Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the application of rhyme cards in improving the ability to write rhymes for the seventh graders of SMP Negeri 3 Pangkah. The method in this study employed an experimental method with true experimental design with pre test-post test category control group design. The sample in this study was class VII A as an experimental group and class VII C as a control group. Pretest and posttest were used as data collection. The data analysis technique used Wilcoxon test to calculate the pretest and posttest data of the experimental group and the control group and the mann whitney test to calculate the pretest of the experimental and control group as well as the experimental group and the control group posttest. The prerequisite test in the form of normality test was carried out first prior to proceeding to the Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney test. Calculation of the normality test, Wilcoxon and Mann Whitney test were carried out with the assistance of SPSS 25.0 program. Based on descriptive analysis it could be observed that the average score of the experimental group pretest was 64.50 and the posttest score was 88.42. The average score of the control group pretest was 63.85 and at the posttest was 67.50. Hypothesis test results by using Wilcoxon test for pretest and posttest of the experimental group generated a p value of 0,000. The p value was smaller than the significance level of 0.05, which meant that rhyme cards were effective in increasing the ability in writing rhymes for the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Pangkah.
