This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of video media on learning of writing procedural text for the seventh grades of SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto. This Study used an experimental research design with two group pre test and post test design. A non-probability sampling technique was used for sampling in this study. Observation and test were also used for data collecting techniques. Based on the result of study, it was identitied that the average score of the experimental class pre test 46, while the average score of the control class pre test was 45. The comprasion from results of the pre test and post test results indicated a significant difference; the average control class on post test was 60, while the average score of the ecperimental class post test was 77. The calculasion obtained Tcout = 3.751 was greater than Ttable 2.002. Thus, Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. This proved that there was a significant difference in the application of video media with those who did not use instructional media to the ability in writing procedural text for class VII students of SMP Negeri 3 Purwokerto.
