This study was conducted because of a trivial view by the community,
especially in rural areas of highly educated women. This study aimed to describe
and examine the correlation of parents' educational background and early
childhood cognitive development in TK Aisyiyah Bustanul Athfal Sidabowa.
The sample of the study was the parents and the students of TK Aisyiyah
Bustanul Athfal Sidabowa with n=27. The instrument of validity test used in this
study was Product Moment correlation and the reliability test was carried out
with a split-half reliability technique from Spearman-Brown. The prerequisite test
was tested for normality and the results were obtained that the data did not have a
normal distribution, so it was followed by a marginal homogeneity test. The
hypothesis test was done with non-parametric Spearman Rank statistical methods.
The results showed that there was no positive correlation between parents'
educational background and the cognitive development of early childhood which
means that high education of parents did not have a positive effect on children's
cognitive development. The results of this study were obtained because of the
limitations of the samples which were less than 30 participants. In addition,
parents' education background can not be used as a reference to improve the
cognitive development of early childhood, but it can be associated with other
variables including biological maturity, activity, social experience, and
equilibration (heredity and environmental factors).
