Abstract

The aim of this research was to examine whether or not teaching reading
comprehension by using team pair solo is effective at the eight grade students of
SMP Negeri 4 Bantarbolang in academic year 2018/2019. This research was
conducted from March up to March 2019. This research used quasi
experimental design. The subject of this research were VIII C as the control class
which consisted of 28 students and VIII B as the experimental class which
consisted of 28 students. The technique of collecting data used pre test and post
test. The type of the test was multiple choice questions consisted of 20 items to
measure students reading comprehension on recount text. The data were analyzed
by using t-test formula. Based on the computation, the result of t-test was 2.296
while t-table value at the level of significance α = 0.05 for degree of freedom (d.f)
= 54 was 2.004, it means that t-test was higher than t-table (2.296 > 2.004). Based
on the research result, the hypothesis saying that Team Pair Solo technique in
teaching reading comprehension skill was accepted.
