Abstract

In Indonesia there are anti-inflammatory drugs that have side effects that irritate the stomach. This study uses tetrahydrokurcumin (THC) which is one of the results of curcumin metabolism which has anti-inflammatory activity and has no stomach irritation effect. THC is made in the form of gel preparations that are optimized to get the optimum formula. This study aims to determine the concentration of carbopol and triethanolamine (TEA) in a gel formulation that produces the optimum formula and determine the anti-inflammatory activity of the optimum THC gel formula by using an artificial edema formation method. This research belongs to the type of experimental research using the Design Expert 7.0.0 program with the D-Optimal Mixture Design method. TEA and carbopol are formulated into 9 runs with a response test of pH, viscosity, and spreadability. Followed by T-Test with a 95% confidence level for formula verification. Meanwhile the anti-inflammatory activity test was analyzed with One Way Anova. The results obtained are the optimum formula has a desirability value of 0.623 with a concentration of 1% TEA and 2.5% carbopol. The results of verification of the optimum formula show the experimental value and the predictive value of no significant difference (p> 0.05). One Way Anova results showed a significant difference in positive control, negative control, and THC gel formula for antiinflation activity (p <0.05).
