Abstract

This study entitled Effectiveness of Inquiry Models in Learning Writing Text in
News for Class VIII Students of State Middle School 1 Contribute 2018-2019
Academic Year. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the inquiry
model in learning to write news text on class VIII SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang 2018-
2019 school year with the experimental method using the design of the pretestposttest
control group design. The researcher took two research groups, namely
the experimental group and the control group taken based on the UTS semester
value. The UTS score was chosen based on the same ability of the students then
determined by the experimental group and the control group to measure students'
ability in writing. Data was obtained with instruments in the form of news text
writing tests. The data analysis technique used is an independent t-test with a
significance level of 0.05. The application of the inquiry model in learning to
write news texts in class VIII SMP Negeri 1 contributed to the 2018-2019 school
year can be said to increase. This is evidenced by the increase in the average value
of the experimental group post-test by 13.85 by using the inquiry model treatment
in writing news texts and an increase in the mean score of the control group posttest
by 5.29 using the conventional learning model in writing learning news text.
From the results of the independent t-test analysis the pre-test and post-test data in
the ability to write the news text of the experimental group obtained t-independent
of -9.458 with df = 34 and P = 0,000. P value is smaller than the significance level
of 0.05. The results of the independent t-test analysis of the pre-test and post-test
data on the ability to write the news text of the control group obtained t
independent of -4,243 with df = 34 and P = 0,000. P value is smaller than the 0.05
significance level.
