Abstract
This study aims to (1) describe the influence of paired storytelling method in improving the students learning motivation of fourth (IV) grade students SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur, and (2) describe the influence of the paired storytelling method in improving the speech skills of the fourth (IV) grade students SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur. This study was quantitative research with the experiments research method this design of study was pretest posttest control group design. The population of this research was fourth grade students of SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur. Based on total sampling technique defined that the IV A class as experimental group and the IV B class as the control group. The data were collected using prestest and posttest, as well as non test in the form of documentation. The technique of data analysis using T-test with a significance level of 5%. Before analizing the data, the first doing
prerequisite analysis test in form of normality test and homogeneity test. Testing was done with the help of computer program SPSS 21 showed the data of pretest and posttest normal distribution and homogeneous. The results of this study showed there was significant difference of learning motivation and speech skills among students in fourth grade of SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur who follow the learning using the paired storytelling method. It can be seen from the analysis results using T-test between groups. Data from the posttest of experimental group and control group obtained value of sig (2-tailed) of 0.000 in the level of error of 0.05 (5%). The value of sig smaller than error level of 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). The method of paired storytelling effectively used in learning fourth grade students of SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur. The results of calculation of T-test showed the data of pretest and posttest learning motivation and speaking skills of the experimental group sig (2-tailed) of 0.000 in the level of error of 0.05 (5%). The value of sig smaller than error level of 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) indicate the method of paired storytelling effectively used in language learning of Indonesian fourth grade students of SD Negeri 2 Mersi Purwokerto Timur. The conclusion this study is the application of paired storytelling method has a significant influence on learning motivation and speaking skills of the students, there was a difference of learning motivation and speaking skills between classes using the paired storytelling method suggestions of the researcher is the learning using the paired storytelling method can be continue to be implemented to increase the motivation and skills of students in learning Indonesia language.
