This research aimed to describe the humor types on characters' utterances in the
rubric of "Ngapak Ngakak" in Kebumen Ekspres newspaper February 2019 edition,
and describe the humor function of characters speech in the February 2019 edition.
This research was a qualitative descriptive study and the data used in the study are the
speech figures in the rubric "Ngapak Ngakak" in the February 2019 edition of
Kebumen Ekspres newspaper. In the data provision, the method of listening with
tapping techniques, SLBC techniques, and note-taking techniques was employed.
Referential comparative method was also used in data analysis and informal
presentation model was used in for data presentation. Based on the results of the
analyses, the following results were obtained: The type of humor of the speech
utterances in the rubric of "Ngapak Ngakak" in Kebumen Ekspres newspaper
February 2019 edition was divided into two types, motivation type, and topic type.
Among the two types, the most dominant in the "Ngapak Ngakak" was the type of
humor based on topics with 46 character utterances, while the humor type based on
motivation was 34 character utterances. The most dominant type of humor based on
motivation was loser's humor, there were 12 character utterances, while humor type
based on the most dominant topic, namely household humor, had 16 character
utterances. The most dominant function of humor was as a medium of entertainment.
There were 30 characters utterances since humor was used in society to relieve
fatigue or stress after doing daily activities.
