Abstract

This research aimed to determine the characteristics of agricultural extension agents and farmers in Lumbir Village, the implementation levels of agricultural extension methods and media, the challenges faced and proposed solutions, as well as to assess the adoption level of rice farmers based on the use of extension media in Lumbir Village, Lumbir District, Banyumas Regency.
The quantitative and qualitative descriptive research methods were analyzed using the Likert scale. The study was conducted in Lumbir Village, and the sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with 40 respondents actively involved in agricultural extension activities and affiliated with the Enggal Mulyo and Sido Rukun farmer groups. The critical informant was a 58-year-old agricultural extension agent with a Bachelor's degree and 34 years of experience in agricultural extension. Most farmers participating in extension activities are 50-59 years old, with primary school or equivalent education and farming experience ranging from 15-30 years, with land areas of 0-0.25 hectares.
The implementation level of lectures, demonstrations, LAKU (Training and Visit), and group discussion methods varies. Lectures and LAKU fall into the "often" category, while demonstrations and group discussions were categorized as "sometimes." The use of extension media involved leaflets and brochures falling into the "sometimes" category, teaching aids being "often" used, and projectors/videos being used "sometimes." The main constraints identified are age and education, with proposed solutions including enhancing interactive methods and adapting extension media. Farmers' understanding of extension methods falls into the "understood" category, while knowledge of media such as leaflets, brochures, and projectors/videos falls into the "less understood" category. The adoption level of extension methods is high, especially for lectures, LAKU, and group discussions. The adoption of extension media is also high, particularly for leaflets, brochures, and teaching aids, while projectors/videos have a low adoption rate
