Abstract

The national soybean production in Indonesia ranges between 600 and 700 thousand tons
annually. To meet the demand, the government imports approximately 1.2 million tons of
soybeans from the United States each year. Considering the high dependence on soybean
imports and the obstacles hindering the pace of productivity improvement, a serious issue
arises. Achieving food self-sufficiency in Indonesia necessitates a sustained increase in
soybean production. This study employed a randomized complete block design with two
factors. The first factor was Rhizobium, namely P1: 5 g/kg, P2: 10 g/kg, P3: 15 g/kg. The
second factor was nitrogen fertilizer, namely N0: 0 g/polybag (control), N1: 0.9
g/polybag, N2: 1.8 g/polybag, N3: 2.7 g/polybag, N4: 3.6 g/polybag. Data were
statistically analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Duncan's New
Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The interaction between
Rhizobium and nitrogen fertilizer treatments showed a non-significant effect on plant
height, leaf area, leaf number, total pod number, filled pod number, plant fresh weight,
plant dry weight, nodule number, and seed weight per plant. However, a significant
difference was observed in the number of seeds per plant and the weight of 100 seeds per
plant. A highly significant difference was found in the weight of 100 seeds per plant. The
research results revealed that the most effective interaction for nodule formation was
observed in the treatment P2N2, with Rhizobium at 10 g/kg and nitrogen fertilizer at 1.8
g/polybag. Additionally, the best treatment for the weight of 100 seeds was P3N3, with
Rhizobium at 15 g/kg and nitrogen fertilizer at 2.7 g/polybag.
