Abstract

This study explored students’ motivation in learning listening through English songs. In the way to find out the students’ motivation, the writer used the quantitative research method in this research. The data was taken by giving a questionnaire to the 24 samples out of 115 populations using the cluster random sampling method and doing interviews to get the valid data. The result of this study showed that there is a positive students’ motivation in learning listening through English songs. Several indicators support the students' motivation in learning listening through English songs. There are 22% of the whole respondents who stated that listening to English songs influenced their students’ motivation, 19% of them argued that listening to English songs influenced their listening habit, another 19% of the respondents said that repetitive action in the song lyrics affected to the students’ motivation, 20% of the students who participated in this research stated that listening to English songs influenced their attention which can give positive influence to the students’ motivation, and around 20% of the sampling gain the meaning of sentences from the lyric and context of songs.
