Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the linguistic forms of registers, to find out the meaning of registers, and to analyze the linguistics features of the register used in Holiday Dessert Bake-Off book. The scope of this research is the words and phrases from this cookery book. The method of this research is descriptive qualitative research where the researcher describes how the use of register in recipes. There are 78 recipes in this cookery book. This research found 103 registers consisting of 74 words and 29 phrases. It is found 53 forms of verb, 10 forms of adejective, and 8 forms of noun. Meanwhile, phrases are found only noun phrase and verb phrase. The identified meaning of the register of recipe encompassed two types of meaning: lexical and contextual meaning, while the domain of the meaning consisted of the main category of recipe that included the list of ingredients, directions, and plating or serving. The function of register of recipe identified included instrumental, and heuristic function. The result found are almost balance between these two meaning. The lexical meaning refers to the real meaning, while the contextual meaning refers to the meaning of lexeme or word inside in context especially in the recipe. In the linguistics features, this research use morphology and semantic study which are one of study about world-building. The result found: 17 affixes consisting of 16 suffixes and the rest is prefix; 25 compounds consisting of verb compound, noun compound, and adjective compound; and the last 4 abbreviations.
