The research entitled An Analysis on Students’ Reading Competence was aimed at
finding out the students’ competence in reading comprehension and to know the kind
aspects of reading comprehension in English questions. This researcher used
descriptive study method. The subject of this research was X MIPA 5 as class A and X
MIPA 6 as class B at SMA Negeri 1 Sokaraja in the Academic Year 2018/ 2019. The
total number of the participant was 350 students. Then, the researcher took 70 students
as the samples. The researcher used multiple choice test in collecting the data. The
average score of the class A was 60 and the class B was 80. This means that class A
belonged to fair category and class B was in good category. Moreover, the dominat
aspect which influence students’ reading comperehension was discourse knowledge in
class A and readiness aspect in class B.
