This study aimed to find out the description of mathematical problem solving abilities viewed students’ curiosity in learning mathematics especially social arithmetic at MTs ( Islamic Secondary School ) Muhammadiyah Patikraja. This was a qualitative research with data analysis techniques including data reduction, data display and conclusion drawing / verification. The data in this research were students of class VII B MTs Muhammadiyah Patikraja. Purposive sampling technique was used as the sampling method. Students were grouped into three categories of curiosity, namely students of high, ,medium, and low curiosity based on the results of curiosity questionnaire distributed to students in class VII B MTs Muhammadiyah Patikraja. The method in this study used questionnaire, tests, interviews, and documentation. The result of the study showed that: 1) Students with high curiosity categories had good mathematical problem solving abilities, namely students were able to understand the problem, to use appropriate problem solving strategies, to complete mathematical models, and to interpret the problems solution. 2) Students with medium curiosity category had good problem-solving abilities, namely students had been able to understand the problem, to use appropriate problem-solving strategies, to complete a mathematical model, however, they had not been able to interpret the problem solution. 3) Students with low curiosity categories had less problem solving abilities, namely students were only able to understand the problem, but they had not been able to use appropriate problem solving strategies, to complete mathematical models, and to interpret problem solution.
