Abstract

The aim of this research was to portray reading habits and to find out reading material preferences of the fourth semester students of English Education Department of Teacher Training Education Faculty of University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. The research was conducted by using survey research. The participants of this research were the fourth semester students of English Education Department of Teacher Training Education Faculty of University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto. This research collecting data using questionnaire. The results of reading habits were the fourth semester students do not have reading habit because mostly students seldom read English books (72.30%), followed by rarely read (67.70%), often read (29.23%), and always (10.77%). However, they had a purpose and motivation for fulfilling’s their assignment (92.30%). On reading preferences, they preferred reading fiction and humor as their type of genre (92.30%).
