Abstract
The increasing number of human populations results in a large amount of energy
consumption. So that using limited amounts of energy derived from fossils is
increasing. Bioethanol as a result of fermentation of sugar, starch, or cellulose
material is expected to replace petroleum as a fuel because the material is
renewable and environmentally friendly. The banana corm in which there is starch,
the component of which is a collection of glucose that joins to form a long chain.
So that the banana corm is good for making bioethanol. Saccharomyces cerevisiae
is a microorganism commonly used for bioethanol fermentation, because it has a
high tolerance for alcohol, fast fermentation rate, and produces high ethanol yield.
This study aims to obtain the optimum value of ethanol content in the manufacture
of bioethanol using banana weevil starch. To get the optimum ethanol level,
optimization of the variables that affect the fermentation process is needed,
including yeast concentration and time. Variations of each variable are generated
from data processing using Minitab 16 software with the response method of
surface method. Based on the results of regression analysis and ANOVA, R-sq =
92.55% and p-value <0.05, which means that the two variables tested give a large
influence on the amount of reducing sugars produced. And the most optimum
reducing sugar at 5.2% yeast concentration and 159 hours long with ethanol
content produced as much as 12.244%.
