Immunostimulants are substances to improve the performance of
components of immune system. Therefore, the presence of chemical substances
being able to improve the activity of the immune system helps much to overcome
the decrease of immune system. Such substance can be obtained from the plants.
This research aims to know the type of plants that can be used as alternative of
immunostimulants and to discover how to take advantage of it. This is a
qualitatively descriptive research. The sample is chosen through purposive
sampling method. Based on the findings, there are 24 types of medicinal plants
consisting of 16 types to be used as immunostimulants. Majority of the plants are
from the family of Zingiberceae. The parts of the plants to use as
immunostimulants are mostly the rhizome and can be found in the traditional
market or traditional medicine store. The treatment of medicinal plants as
immunostimulants was mostly boiled and drunk it. The most widely used
medicinal plants as an immunostimulants alternative in Baturraden District were
temulawak, jahe, kunyit, kencur, lempuyang, pegagan, jeruk nipis, sambiloto.
Medicinal plants that need to be further investigated were akar alang-alang, cabe
puyang, cat whiskers, ketumpang, and jarem.
